Ensuring Purse Safety: Tips to Keep Your Essentials Secure
This summer an influencer that I follow had her purse stolen out of the front seat of her car in the middle of the day at a busy shopping center.
She was in the car, the purse was simply laying on the passenger seat beside her.
It was truly eye opening to me, and made me take a long look into situational awareness around carrying my purse in public, where I place it when sitting in public, and finally how I handle my purse safely in the car.
Your purse is not just an accessory; it's a lifeline to your world.
It carries your wallet, keys, phone, and often much more, making it a treasure trove for both essential items and potential risks.
Purse safety is paramount, whether you're strolling through the city, shopping at the mall, or enjoying a night out with friends.
In this blog, we'll explore some practical tips to help you safeguard your belongings and maintain peace of mind while on the go.
Choose the Right Purse
Start with a purse that offers security features.
Look for bags with secure zippers or clasps that are difficult for pickpockets to access.
Crossbody bags are a popular choice as they can be worn close to your body, making it harder for anyone to snatch them.
This is a reason why our bags are popular due to the crossbody design element of them.
Keep Essential Only
While it's tempting to carry everything you might need, it's safer to keep your purse clutter-free.
Prioritize essentials like your ID, credit cards, phone, and keys.
Leave unnecessary items at home to reduce the risk of losing or misplacing them.
If there are credit cards you don’t use on a regular basis, leave them at home in a secure location.
Use Wallets and Organizers
Invest in a quality wallet or purse organizer to keep your cards and cash neatly organized.
This not only helps you find what you need quickly but also makes it more challenging for thieves to grab items from your bag.
Also it makes you less distracted when getting items in and out of your purse, allowing you to be more situational aware while out in public.
Be Mindful of Your Surroundings
Stay aware of your environment, especially in crowded or unfamiliar places.
Keep your purse close to your body and avoid leaving it unattended, even for a moment.
Thieves often strike when they see an opportunity.
As soon as you get in the car, lock the doors.
If you are by yourself, only unlock the driver's door, get in and lock the door immediately.
Also don’t get distracted on your phone, for it makes you an easy target.
Secure Your Bag
Consider adding extra security measures, such as purse clips or carabiners, to secure your bag's straps.
These can make it much harder for anyone to grab your purse and run.
This is because we suggest our bags with the locking compartment, it allows you to also use the compartment to lock important items.
RFID-Blocking Wallets
In today's digital age, RFID-blocking wallets are a smart choice.
They protect your credit card and passport information from electronic theft attempts by blocking radio signals.
For some reason, when I have had numerous credit cards compromised during business trips to Las Vegas.
I now limit the credit cards that I take with me and store them in a RFID-blocking wallet.
Trust Your Instincts
Finally, always trust your instincts.
If something feels off or suspicious, remove yourself from the situation and seek help if necessary.
You have to have situational awareness.
Beth Alcazar does a great job of breaking down situational awareness for women, in her Women’s Self Defense book.
Take the time to educate yourself, and think through how you would respond in different situations.
Your purse is an essential part of your daily life, and with these safety tips, you can enjoy peace of mind while carrying it.
Stay vigilant, be proactive, and take steps to protect your belongings.
Remember that safety always comes first, ensuring that your purse remains a stylish and secure accessory wherever you go.
