By Ashley Malfitano
The start of a new year is the perfect time to set goals and work towards self-improvement.
If your New Year's resolution is focused on enhancing your personal safety and becoming better at concealed carry, here's a guide tailored to help women like you accomplish these goals effectively.
Personally, my goal is to be better at on-body carry when running, and I have put together a plan for how I want to do this using these outlined steps.
Define Your Specific Goals
Start by defining clear and specific objectives. What aspects of personal safety do you want to improve? Is it about becoming proficient in concealed carry, learning self-defense, or enhancing situational awareness?
Knowing exactly what you want to achieve is the first step towards success.
For me this is being able to feel confident when running with my firearm on-body and that I would be effectively be able to pull and use the firearm if I needed to.
Seek Professional Training
Invest in professional training for concealed carry. Enroll in courses offered by certified instructors who can teach you the fundamentals of firearm safety, marksmanship, and self-defense techniques.
Proper training is essential for both beginners and experienced gun owners.
In my case, I am new to pulling from my running pants, so my goal is to work with a female instructor at my local range on practicing pulling from my running tights.
Regular Practice
Practice makes perfect. Dedicate time to regular firearm practice to improve your shooting skills.
Familiarize yourself with your firearm and practice safe handling. Consistent practice builds confidence and proficiency. This is a essential part and one that could easily be forgotten as the year goes on, routine practice with your fire arm keeps your sharp and alert on using it.
Set dates now for throughout the year on when your going to practice, put it on your calendar so that you have that visual reminder in place.
Stay Informed
Stay updated on concealed carry laws and regulations in your state.
Knowledge of the legalities surrounding carrying a concealed weapon is vital to ensure you are in compliance with the law.
Invest in Quality Gear
Choose high-quality concealed carry gear, including holsters, belts, and clothing that allows for discreet carry.
Comfort and concealment are key factors for effective concealed carry. For me this includes purchasing a new firearm that is more comfortable to carry on-body during my runs.
Also I have invested in new running pants that are made for concealed carry. I talk about this in my running blog here.
